Larry Eats Inventors of Technology - Oracle Acquires SUN

Oracle Sun
Larry eating Inventors of Technology

On April 20, 2009, Sun and Oracle announced a definitive agreement under which Oracle will acquire Sun common stock for $9.50 per share in cash. The transaction is valued at approximately $7.4 billion.

SUN as the name goes stands for Stanford University Network. This is the place all the researchers and scientists join to invent the technology. Unfortunately market conditions & the leadership of Jonathan Schwartz couldn’t save the company from being acquired.

On one end it is good to know that Sun is not in the hands of Microsoft or Intel, who would almost kill the company. On the other hand looking to the track record of Oracle, it scares a bit. Oracle may have an edge with their own stack of technologies using SUN’s products, but on the other hand may stop supporting great products like MySQL, Open Solaris, NetBeans.
